40 signs you really are a lousy PHP programmer

February 15th, 2008 by Barnabas

Some of these are common pitfalls for other programming languages as well.

This is something I prefer to call my “programming list of shame”. Although having a formal university education with courses on software engineering, enterprise software architecture & database design I have been guilty of every single one of those things at one time or another. This is completely subjective & Eclipse oriented

You are a lousy PHP programmer if you

1. don’t comment your code properly with something like phpDoc

2. don’t see the need and/or benefits of a good programming IDE like Zend Studio or Eclipse PDT

3. have never used some form of version control like Subclipse

How to prevent Malware

February 7th, 2008 by Barnabas

A simple guide on how to prevent malware. Not sure what malware is?

Never install more than one Antivirus and Firewall! Rather than giving you extra protection, it will decrease the reliability of it seriously! The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, your system may lock up due to both software products attempting to access the same file at the same time. Also because more than one Antivirus and Firewall installed are not compatible with eachother, it can cause system performance problems and a serious system slowdown.

amazingly, this may have happened for some as all of the board games below have been / are still available to buy and each one has caused some degree of controversy, the reasons for which will quickly become apparent. some of them are pretty horrible and their inclusion in this list does not in any way condone their creation.
